Light illuminates fragrant clay dust hovering in the air of my mother’s ceramic studio: This crystallized memory encompassing magic, autonomy, and exploration spawned my love for materiality and harnessing light as a creative force. Film-making, image-making, mark-making, sound design and contemporary craft converge into a signature physically ‘lived-in’ analogue aesthetic in my maverick works.
My history informs my handmade process, methodology, and thematic content. The lone survivor of a car accident at the age of eighteen, I sustained a stroke that permanently paralyzed my left hand. Vulnerability, resiliency, and research spawn broader investigations into disability aesthetics, the psychological reverberations of intergenerational trauma, and profound loss.
I revel in ephemerality and implied transient narratives while simultaneously seeking material tactility, yearned permanence, and being physically present in an uncertain world. I grapple with the precarious and fragile relationship to ourselves and the natural world, steeped in myth making. Nature intercedes in these folktales as a sapient being, reclaiming its environs.
